Gear selection lever

Accelerate! Gear selection levers have to be extremely robust, lie comfortably in the hand but also please the eye. After all, they play a central role in the car interior. With the various surface technologies from the KH repertoire, this poses no issue at all. Depth effect, scratch-resistant coating, elements in chrome optics, vanishing effects – everything the heart desires.

IML

Clearly USP: The multi-color decoration on the reverse side of the part would not be as feasible with any other process as it is with IML technology.

glass optics

In order to achieve a glass-like effect, the IML foil is pushed to the limits of its forming height and is then front molded.

scratch resistant

As it is, PMMA is extremely robust. To achieve a higher scratch-resistance, an additional coating is a good choice.

The foil processes IML and IMD are widely prevalent when it comes to gear selection levers as they combine high-quality optic chic with robustness suitable for daily use. For IML, the decoration is protected by the foil while the reverse-side of IMD is protected by the part body itself.

The BMW gear lever has a selector with In-Mold Decoration, scratch-resistant coating and variants for the M-Sport versions.

Even electric cars require gear selection levers. Here, BMW decided on decorating using 3D IML with scratch-resistant coating, painting, laser marking and installed fiber optics.

The BlackPanel for the Maserati gear selection lever reveals its symbols only as required. It is produced using IML processing with a scratch-resistant coated, black high-gloss foil.
